The Search Is Over

After days of being terrified that our friend was lost, alone, despaired, freezing and incapable of reaching out to us, we just learned that he was peaceful, quiet and had simply decided to end his long run and lay his body on Mother Earth.

I have always been a man of words. Tonight, I have none.

  3. I count the few days I spent in the company of Micah as some of the must important experiences in my running life. He will be sorely missed. I pray what he started finds someone with the same passion to keep it going. I have not the words to describe the sadness in the running and ultra community tonight. Rest Well Caballo!

Thanks for seeing you last September in Sweden. I was hoping we could run together in Copper Canyon some day, but sadly we have to change place.

  11. One of the great characters I have enjoyed in any book, fiction or non-fiction. RIP. And thank you Christopher McDougall for bringing his story to life for all of us. I will now have to read Born to Run for a 4th time.

  12. RIP Caballo, we will all miss you. It was an honor to meet you in Leadville a few years back. You were described to me as one who would dissapear without anyone even noticing. You did just that in that bar that day. We were speaking, I turned my head, and you were gone. Run free in the clouds my man!

  15. 'If one could run without getting tired, I don't think one would often want to do anything else.' Rest in peace, Caballo.

  18. My condolences to all who lost Micah this weekend, most especially his friends and family. I ran for Caballo on Friday, praying with each step for his safe return. As my run ended, I made one last request: that if Micah was not found, or if it was discovered that he had passed, that he left this world with as light a heart as he lived within it.

I began rereading Born to Run today; I am thankful that, through that work, I can meet Caballo again, over and over.

Thank you, Flint, for updating us through what I can only imagine has been a very trying time for you.

  20. From Kingston, Canada, I would like to send my condolences to all people who were close to Micah True/Caballo. I only know of him through the Born to Run book but reading about him quickly made me realize how special and genuine this person was. You inspired me and many (running) friends around me. May you rest in peace and may the world remember how you made such a positive difference in the lives of many - close to you and far away.

  22. I started reading "BtR" last week and finished on Friday...far from a "personal friend". But I can say unequivocally that Caballo's message, as told through McDougall, has inspired total change in my love of running. It was while on the trail this morning that I came across another runner who told me of Caballo's disappearance, and after returning home to look up the details I found this board. I am so recently removed from "Born" that this just feels like a continuation of the story...the real world colliding with the narrative in my head. Hard to comprehend.

I have my first distance race this weekend, and Caballo will be at the forefront of my thoughts throughout the run, and every run from here on. Rest well, knowing your message has reached a world of grateful disciples.
